Volkswagen is preparing to introduce a new vehicle in India. The highly anticipated Volkswagen Golf GTI is scheduled for launch by August 2025. It will be imported under the government’s homologation-free import policy, which allows for the import of up to 2,500 units per year. This model aims to serve as a flagship model for Volkswagen India, marking the first time the Golf GTI will officially debut in the Indian market, following the limited release of the Polo GTI in 2016.

Engine Specifications of the Volkswagen Golf GTI

The most recent update for the Golf GTI was disclosed in April, showcasing minor cosmetic enhancements, upgraded infotainment software, and increased engine performance. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine now delivers 265 horsepower, up from the previous 245 horsepower, while the torque remains at 370 Nm. This powertrain is connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that transmits power to the front wheels.

Volkswagen claims that the updated Golf GTI can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds quicker than its predecessor. Additionally, it features an electronically capped top speed of 250 km/h. Key mechanical features include progressive steering with varying gear ratios, an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock, and available adaptive suspension options.

Features of the Volkswagen Golf GTI

The latest Golf GTI is a hatchback that showcases a sporty aesthetic. It comes standard with 18-inch ‘Richmond’ diamond-cut alloy wheels, with the option to upgrade to 19-inch wheels. The exterior incorporates distinct GTI badges and striking red accents, including a strip on the hood above the illuminated VW logo and red brake calipers. The vehicle is designed with assertive front and rear bumpers, featuring large air intakes in a sleek black finish at the front, and the signature twin tailpipes and diffuser at the back. A dual-tone roof spoiler adds to its sporty look.

The Golf GTI is equipped with advanced Matrix LED headlights and 3D LED tail lights, which can be personalized for welcome and farewell signatures using the infotainment system. The 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen has been refreshed with better graphics and simplified menus, now including a voice assistant integrated with Chat GPT. In addition to the classic tartan seat upholstery and GTI steering wheel, the digital instrument cluster features graphics unique to the GTI, and the push-to-start button glows red before ignition.
