Chennai: VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan and leaders from left-wing parties criticized Tamil Nadu Governor R V Arlekar for not inviting TVK president Vijay to form the government. They described this decision as a tactic by the BJP-led Union government to complicate the political landscape in Tamil Nadu and undermine Vijay’s position.

Other allies of the DMK, including Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam and the MDMK, also condemned the governor’s actions. Speaking to the media on Thursday, Thirumavalavan insisted that under the provisions of the Constitution, the governor should promptly invite Vijay to form the government. “If he fails to do so, it would imply that the governor is intentionally trying to complicate and obscure the current political situation in the state,” he stated.

On the same day, Thirumavalavan, along with CPI state secretary M Veerapandian and CPM state secretary P Shanmugam, met DMK president M K Stalin at his residence to discuss the elections’ results and the ongoing political scenario. Thirumavalavan noted that discussions were held regarding TVK leader Vijay’s invitation to form a coalition government with VCK and other parties.

“We have received communication expressing their desire to form the government in conjunction with VCK. He (Vijay) has also spoken to me. We are contemplating this, but other factors must be considered before making a decision. We cannot act hastily as the party has established procedures,” he explained.

Veerapandian emphasized that TVK has emerged as the single largest party in the elections, and thus the governor should provide sufficient time for TVK to demonstrate its majority in the assembly. Shanmugam supported this view, while MDMK leader Durai Vaiko remarked that delaying or obstructing TVK leader Vijay from taking office would be unconstitutional and contrary to the voters’ mandate.
