Chandigarh: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered a stunning performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 Eliminator, overwhelming the opposing bowlers. The 15-year-old left-handed batsman struck 12 sixes during his innings, leaving the Hyderabad team in disarray as none of their strategies seemed to work.

Sooryavanshi’s innings concluded at 97 runs off just 29 balls, narrowly missing Chris Gayle’s IPL record for the fastest century, which stands at 30 balls. Gayle, a former West Indies international, achieved this milestone, and Sooryavanshi’s near miss has reignited discussions about his potential.

Sooryavanshi Breaks Shubman Gill’s Record

In addition to his explosive batting display, Sooryavanshi set a new record for the most sixes in a playoffs innings, surpassing Shubman Gill’s record of 10 sixes, which he had established against the Mumbai Indians in 2023. Sooryavanshi’s 12 sixes not only broke the playoff record but also showcased his ability to dominate bowlers.

Most Runs by an Uncapped Batter

Sooryavanshi also became the uncapped batter with the highest runs in a single IPL season, reaching a total of 680 runs in 15 matches. This achievement eclipses the previous record held by his opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 625 runs in the 2023 season.

Player Runs Year
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 680* 2026
Yashasvi Jaiswal 625 2023
Shaun Marsh 616 2008
Riyan Parag 573 2024

Sooryavanshi’s journey this season has been marked by exceptional performances, consistently playing crucial innings at the top of the order. His latest display underlined his fearless mentality and ability to confront high-pressure situations effectively.

Following his innings, Sooryavanshi appeared visibly disappointed upon his dismissal. However, he received congratulations from several Hyderabad players, and SRH co-owner Kavya Maran was noted for applauding his remarkable effort from the stands.
