New Delhi: In the 66th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the Gujarat Titans exhibited an outstanding performance, defeating the Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium and effectively eliminating them from the tournament.
Gujarat Titans elected to bat first, with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill leading the charge. Sudharsan scored 84 runs, while Gill contributed 64 runs to the innings. Jos Buttler added to the team’s total with an unbeaten 57 runs off just 27 deliveries, allowing Gujarat to post a formidable score of 229 runs in the first innings.
For Chennai Super Kings, the bowling attack was spearheaded by Mukesh Choudhary, Spencer Johnson, and Anshul Kamboj, each claiming one wicket. CSK needed to win this match to keep their playoff hopes alive, but the defeat meant they were eliminated from contention, marking a disappointing end for the five-time champions.
Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada dismantle CSK’s batting lineup
In the second innings, Chennai’s batsmen struggled against a potent Gujarat bowling attack. Sanju Samson was dismissed without scoring off the very first ball, while Matthew Short managed 24 runs off 14 balls. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Urvil Patel contributed 16 runs and a duck, respectively, and Kartik Sharma scored 19 runs off 15 deliveries. Shivam Dube fought hard for his 47 runs off 17 balls, but it was insufficient to secure a competitive total.
Chennai Super Kings succumbed to the pressure, being bowled out for just 140 runs. Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Rashid Khan were the standout bowlers for the Gujarat Titans, each claiming three wickets, helping solidify Titan’s position in the standings, now secured in second place.
