Equity benchmarks exhibited a range-bound movement during early trading on Tuesday. Initially, the Sensex gained 300 points and the Nifty rose by 96 points. However, at the time of reporting, both indices were nearly flat.

As of 1:21 PM, the Sensex increased by 69.79 points, or 0.09 percent, to reach 80,434.73, while the Nifty 50 saw a slight uptick of 27.15 points, or 0.11 percent, to stand at 24,662.05. The indices were supported by buying interest in banking, metal, and IT sectors.

Investors maintained a cautious approach ahead of the monthly futures and options expiry, along with the anticipated outcomes of the Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting scheduled for tomorrow, October 1, 2025.

The midcap index declined by 0.14 percent, and the smallcap index fell by 0.6 percent. Among sectors, gains were noted in PSU banks and metals, each rising over 1 percent. IT and automotive stocks made modest gains, while the realty, media, FMCG, consumer durables, and pharmaceutical sectors faced selling pressure.

The market breadth was slightly negative, with declines outpacing gains. Of the 3,002 stocks traded on the National Stock Exchange, 1,370 advanced, while 1,544 declined, and 88 remained unchanged.

Some stocks, such as Invesco India Gold and Muthoot Finance, reached their 52-week highs, whereas 84 stocks, including HGI Infra and JSW Cement, hit their 52-week lows. Additionally, 52 stocks were locked in the upper circuit, while 48 fell into the lower circuit.
