Kochi auctions see boost in CTC prices due to blender demand

CTC dust prices at Kochi tea auctions saw a rise this week, driven by strong demand from blenders. The average price realisation increased by ₹2, with blenders purchasing 59 per cent of the total CTC on offer. The market remained steady to firm, with popular Kerala marks performing well. Export enquiries were noted at the lower end of the market.

On the other hand, Orthodox dust market witnessed a decline, with some withdrawal seen. Despite this, exporters and upcountry buyers managed to absorb a small quantity. Traders anticipate further price increases in the upcoming auctions as the future offerings are expected to be lower.

However, the leaf market faced challenges due to the availability of low-quality teas, resulting in a drop in average price realisation by ₹9 per kg compared to the previous week. The quantity offered was 2,48,708 kg, with a sales percentage of 93.

The market for whole leaf was irregular, with high-priced medium brokens experiencing a decline. CTC leaf market also saw a downturn, with brokens and fannings showing irregular and lower trends. Despite these challenges, traders remain optimistic about the potential improvement in the geopolitical situation, which could lead to increased purchase orders from overseas buyers in the near future.
