New Delhi: Rohit Sharma remains sidelined as the Mumbai Indians (MI) face the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their eighth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, April 29. This marks the fourth consecutive match the former MI captain has missed due to injury.

Rohit sustained a hamstring injury during MI’s match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 12 and has been unable to participate since. MI captain Hardik Pandya provided a significant update on Rohit’s condition during the toss against SRH.

“Rohit is still not fit to go as he is ‘not up to the mark’,” Hardik stated. He emphasized that the former captain would require a couple more matches to regain full fitness, adding, “Rohit will need a couple more games; he’s trying, but it’s not up to the mark.” Following the toss, MI opted to bat first.

Rohit has been making efforts to recover and was observed training lightly with the team at Wankhede on Tuesday. His routine included warm-ups and running sessions, although he did not participate in batting drills.

In addition to Rohit, MI is also without Quinton de Kock and Mitchell Santner for this match. Santner has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to a shoulder injury, while de Kock is sidelined with a wrist issue. Hardik confirmed that Ryan Rickelton would replace de Kock in the lineup. “Mitchell (Santner) was unfortunate, and so was Quinny today. He just did something to his wrist,” Hardik noted.

The playing XI for Sunrisers Hyderabad includes: Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, Salil Arora (wicketkeeper), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Pat Cummins (captain), Harsh Dubey, Sakib Hussain, Praful Hinge, and Eshan Malinga. Meanwhile, for Mumbai Indians, the lineup features: Ryan Rickelton (wicketkeeper), Will Jacks, Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (captain), Robin Minz, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, AM Ghazanfar, and Ashwani Kumar.

The impact substitutes for Sunrisers Hyderabad are Smaran Ravichandran, Aniket Verma, Liam Livingstone, Shivang Kumar, and Harshal Patel, while Mumbai Indians’ impact substitutes include Mayank Rawat, Raghu Sharma, Shardul Thakur, Krish Bhagat, and Raj Bawa.
