Mahindra has launched its first three-row electric SUV, the XEV 9S, in the Indian market, with a starting price of Rs 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned as a family-oriented electric vehicle, the XEV 9S is built on the XUV700 platform and is part of Mahindra’s expanding electric vehicle portfolio, which also includes the XEV 9e, BE6, and XUV400. As the demand for premium and practical electric SUVs rises, the XEV 9S is anticipated to significantly contribute to Mahindra’s growth in the electric vehicle sector.
Design and Exterior Features: Modern EV
The Mahindra XEV 9S features a contemporary electric vehicle design language. It boasts a fully enclosed front fascia embellished with L-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), vertically stacked projector headlights, and a sleek full-width LED light bar. Additional exterior elements include aerodynamic alloy wheels, flush door handles, roof rails, a shark-fin antenna, and unique EV branding, creating a clean and futuristic aesthetic.
Competing directly with the Kia Carens Clavis, the XEV 9S targets buyers seeking a spacious seven-seater that offers a premium design at an accessible price point.
Battery Options, Range, and Performance
Mahindra offers the XEV 9S in three battery configurations: 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh. Currently, both the 59 kWh and 79 kWh options are also used in Mahindra’s BE6 and XEV 9e models, delivering 380 Nm of torque with power outputs of 228 bhp for the 59 kWh variant and 282 bhp for the 79 kWh variant. The new 70 kWh version features a single motor producing 241 bhp and 380 Nm of torque, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 7 seconds.
All variants will benefit from Mahindra’s latest platform tuning for electric vehicles, which enhances power delivery and optimizes thermal management to suit Indian driving conditions.
