Ravindra Jadeja’s Fitness a Key Concern for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026
New Delhi: The fitness of Ravindra Jadeja remains a significant issue for the Rajasthan Royals amid the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). The Indian all-rounder contributed a vital 19 runs off 11 balls in RR’s critical match against the Mumbai Indians but has missed several games due to a knee ailment and an elbow problem.
Jadeja was absent for consecutive matches during IPL 2026, missing an away game against the Delhi Capitals and a home fixture against the Lucknow Super Giants. He returned for the away match against Mumbai, where RR’s playoff aspirations were at stake; however, he was utilized as an impact substitute.
RR’s head coach, Kumar Sangakkara, disclosed that Jadeja has been managing an injury, prompting the team to handle his participation judiciously. “He’s been nursing an injury. And we’ve had to manage him quite sensitively. So for him to go out and bat for long periods of time puts a lot of pressure on him. Until he gets maybe another two days of rest, then we can use him even better,” Sangakkara remarked following RR’s 30-run victory over MI.
Riyan Parag Also Contending with Injury
In related news, RR captain Riyan Parag has revealed that he is also facing injury challenges. Despite being advised against participating further in the tournament, he opted to play for the team’s benefit. “I’m definitely not fit. All of this was mental toughness. I was not supposed to play today. I was not supposed to play another game,” he acknowledged in the post-match ceremony.
Parag confirmed that Jadeja is likewise dealing with recurring issues. “Jaddu bhai has some niggles here and there. But again, he’s got the sword, he’s a warrior, he’ll be back,” he stated.
Insights from Vikram Rathour on Jadeja’s Condition
Additionally, RR’s batting coach Vikram Rathour commented on Jadeja’s injury, indicating that he was suffering from a ‘niggle in his knee.’ “They felt that if we give him one more game break, it would be good for him. That was the reason he was rested today,” Rathour explained after RR’s victory over DC on May 17.
