Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the inaugural session of the World Forum of Accountants, organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), on Friday. He urged Chartered Accountants (CAs) to transition into roles as strategic advisors, ethical leaders, and innovators to remain relevant in today’s fast-paced, technology-driven landscape.

During his speech, Singh emphasized the importance of acquiring a new set of skills, including critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability, in order to navigate the current challenges. He noted the rapid advancements in technology that have transformed the corporate environment, shifting from a landscape dominated by large, centralized organizations to one characterized by a surge in start-ups.

Singh pointed out that global trade has become a reality, with organizations expanding in size and complexity, leading to an overwhelming flow of information. He stated that this evolving environment demands ongoing innovation, and the traditional methods of processing and analyzing data are being challenged by new technologies, whose benefits may not yet be fully understood. Therefore, he stressed that accountants must commit themselves to continuous learning, innovation, and adaptability to stay ahead in their field.

“You are the guardians of trust, the gatekeepers of accountability, and the custodians of prosperity in an ever-changing world. The future requires not just expertise, but also the courage and creativity to innovate and uphold the highest professional standards,” he articulated.

Singh proclaimed India as a resurgent power on the global stage, with Indian professionals’ businesses and reputations flourishing internationally. He applauded the Chartered Accountants for their established trustworthiness and expertise. He remarked that for CAs, their signature is more than just a mark; it embodies trust, integrity, and professionalism, significantly influencing financial decisions and impacting lives.

He described accountants as the sentinels of organizational transparency, responsible for providing essential information regarding profits, losses, cash flows, balance sheets, assets, and liabilities. Singh asserted that being trustworthy, truthful, and maintaining integrity are fundamental values for any accountant, forming the foundation of a collective ethos that sustains the credibility of the entire financial ecosystem.
