Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Monday that the sourcing of oil and gas from the US will be a key topic of discussion during the upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump.

Indian oil and gas companies such as GAIL, Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) are already in talks with US suppliers for liquefied natural gas (LNG) purchases, with a current annual expenditure of $20 billion on energy imports from the US.

Puri stated, “President Trump’s push for increased energy supply globally, coupled with our strong relationship with the US, sets a positive stage for further energy collaboration between the two countries.”

Oil Secretary Pankaj Jain remarked that Indian companies are actively looking at additional LNG sourcing from the US and are exploring opportunities to invest in US LNG projects. Discussions at the Indian Energy Week 2025 will focus on enhancing gas supplies from the US.

The upcoming meeting between PM Modi and President Trump holds significant importance, preceding the visit of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Puri expressed optimism for productive discussions between the two leaders, emphasizing the vast potential for cooperation in the energy sector with the US.

In conclusion, Jain stressed the need for enhancing oil and gas supplies from the US and highlighted the ongoing negotiations between Indian and US companies for expanding energy cooperation.
