Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday to take a sacred dip at Triveni Sangam during the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025. Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Prime Minister enjoyed a boat ride on the Yamuna River before offering prayers to Maa Ganga.

The Mahakumbh 2025, which began on Paush Purnima (January 13, 2025), is recognized as the largest spiritual and cultural gathering in the world, drawing devotees from around the globe. The event will continue until Mahashivratri on February 26.

In his effort to promote and preserve India’s spiritual and cultural heritage, the Prime Minister has actively worked to improve infrastructure and amenities at pilgrimage sites. During a previous visit to Prayagraj on December 13, 2024, he inaugurated 167 development projects valued at ₹5,500 crore, aimed at enhancing connectivity and public services.

By 8 a.m. on Wednesday, over 3.748 million devotees had participated in the holy dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati, highlighting the deep spiritual significance of this grand religious event. Among them were more than one million Kalpvasis and approximately 2.748 million pilgrims who arrived early in hopes of receiving divine blessings.

As per data from the Uttar Pradesh government, the cumulative number of bathers since the start of Mahakumbh has surpassed 382 million as of February 4, emphasizing the event’s unique spiritual and cultural importance.

Additionally, on Tuesday, Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk engaged in several key spiritual activities during his visit to Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh-2025, where he and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered prayers at the Lete Hanuman Mandir and explored the Digital Mahakumbh Experience Centre.
