New Delhi: In a thrilling encounter of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), the Punjab Kings secured a notable victory against the Delhi Capitals in match 35 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 25. While the game concluded with Punjab’s triumph, a concerning incident involving Delhi’s Lungi Ngidi captured significant attention.
During the third over of Punjab’s second innings, Priyansh Arya struck the ball skyward towards mid-off. In an effort to catch the ball, Ngidi lost his footing and fell, hitting his head on the ground. Emergency medical protocols were swiftly initiated, and he was taken to the hospital for evaluation. As the crowd awaited updates in silence, the IPL provided information regarding Ngidi’s condition.
The IPL relayed a statement via social media: “Update: Lungisani Ngidi of Delhi Capitals hit his head on the ground while attempting to take a catch during his team’s match against Punjab Kings. He was shifted to the hospital in an ambulance as he complained of a headache and neck pain. Ngidi is stable and is due to be discharged shortly from the hospital.”
On the field, the Capitals initially set a formidable target, amassing a total of 264 runs in their innings. Notably, KL Rahul and Nitish Rana significantly contributed to this score, with Rahul achieving an impressive 152 not out. However, the Punjab Kings successfully chased down the target, with Arya and Prabhsimran Singh laying a strong foundation and Shreyas Iyer finishing with a flourish, leading the team to victory by six wickets.
