Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been chosen as one of the preferred Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors for the northern site of a groundbreaking solar power project in Abu Dhabi, the company announced today. The shares of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Limited were trading at ₹3,470, up by ₹11.80 or 0.34 per cent on the NSE today at 10.25 am.

The project, a collaboration between UAE’s Masdar and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), will be the world’s first 24/7 solar PV and battery storage facility at a gigawatt scale. It will consist of a 5.2GW (DC) solar photovoltaic plant paired with a 19 gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system (BESS), making it the largest combined solar and battery storage project globally.

The northern site, which L&T will help construct, will have 2.6GW of solar PV capacity and 9.5GWh of battery storage. The goal is to provide up to 1 gigawatt of baseload power continuously throughout the week.

The contract was finalized during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, with the Letter of Award signed by Masdar’s Chief Operating Officer Abdulaziz Alobaidli and L&T’s Senior Vice President A Ravindran, in the presence of UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr. Sultan Al Jaber. L&T, a $27 billion Indian multinational, brings extensive experience in renewable energy projects and will contribute to the UAE’s clean energy transformation through this project.
