Lenovo has consistently expanded its Legion gaming portfolio, with the Legion 5 emerging as a standout model featuring the latest Ultra 7 processor and a host of complementary features. After several weeks of testing, this review highlights both the strengths and weaknesses of the device.
Design
The Lenovo Legion 5 boasts a slim profile compared to traditional gaming laptops, measuring 13.58 x 10.05 x 0.79-0.85 inches and weighing approximately 2 kg. Its sleek Eclipse Black finish, while attractive, is prone to fingerprints and smudges. The gently rounded corners enhance portability and comfort during use.
Display
Equipped with a 15.1-inch WQXGA (2560 × 1600) OLED display featuring a 165Hz refresh rate and HDR 600 support, the screen excels in performance. With full DCI-P3 coverage and a brightness level of up to 500 nits, reflections are minimized despite the glossy surface. The OLED technology delivers exceptional contrast, deep blacks, and vibrant colors, significantly enriching the gaming experience. The display is particularly impressive while playing titles like Spiderman 2 and consuming multimedia content.
Sound
The audio quality of the Lenovo Legion 5 is adequate, providing crisp sounds for gaming, such as gunshots and dialogue. However, it struggles with music, particularly in genres like classical, which can sound flat at high volumes. Nonetheless, the laptop manages to create a satisfactory audio experience for gaming and media consumption.
Keyboard and Ports
The backlit RGB keyboard features zone lighting and the Legion Truestrike keyboard with 1.6mm key travel. Keypresses feel substantial, ideal for gaming and typing, though it is not mechanical. The port selection is comprehensive, including an Ethernet port, USB-C with Power Delivery, and several USB-A ports, enhancing its usability for gamers and professionals alike.
Performance
The tested model comes equipped with an Ultra-7 255HX processor, 32 GB of RAM, and a 1 TB SSD, along with an RTX 5070 graphics card positioned within the mid-to-upper tiers of gaming performance. It achieved notable scores of 511 in single-thread and 6,114 in multi-thread on CineBench R26, ranking among the top processors in performance benchmarks.
Gaming performance is strong, with the Legion 5 achieving 100 FPS in Marvel’s Spiderman 2 and 205 FPS in Counterstrike 2 while plugged in. The laptop remains cool under load, with fan noise becoming noticeable only during intense gaming sessions.
Lenovo’s Legion Space app facilitates various functions, such as toggling performance profiles and controlling RGB keyboard lighting, in addition to AI features like Game Clip Master and Game Companion, which enhance the gaming experience through automated editing and in-game assistance.
Battery
The Legion 5 features an 80 Wh battery, providing around five hours of use. Testing indicated a range of 4.5 to 6 hours for tasks like web browsing and video playback, while gaming battery life was limited to 55 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes. Charging using the provided 245-Watt power brick was efficient, taking under two hours, and the laptop also supports USB-C PD charging for quicker overnight top-ups.
Verdict
With a strong display, solid performance, and an effective keyboard, the Lenovo Legion 5 offers considerable value, starting at ₹1,93,600. Despite average battery life and fan noise during high performance, the device competes well against options like Dell’s G15 and Asus’s TUF A14.
