Kohli Returns for RCB’s IPL Clash Against LSG
New Delhi: In a significant boost for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) supporters, star batsman Virat Kohli is poised to return for the team’s IPL 2026 match against the Lucknow Super Giants at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, April 15. Kohli sustained an ankle injury during RCB’s recent match against the Mumbai Indians, which kept him off the field for his team’s bowling innings.
Kohli has been included in RCB’s impact substitutes list. Team captain Rajat Patidar confirmed that Josh Hazlewood is replacing Jacob Duffy as the sole adjustment to the squad that triumphed over the Mumbai Indians. Upon winning the toss, Patidar chose to bowl first, citing the pitch conditions: “We’re gonna bowl first. It’s pretty obvious. I see a pretty good surface. So, we bowl first and take the advantage of the first innings and keep the pressure. Not much (on the pitch). The previous game had a lot of grass, but this wicket is clear. It will be a good track.”
Patidar emphasized the team’s recent improvements and the importance of each member performing at crucial moments.
Kohli’s Status and LSG’s Team Continuity
Kohli’s inclusion as an impact substitute suggests that RCB may be cautiously managing his recovery or that the ankle injury may not be fully healed. He participated in batting practice for 45 minutes in three sessions the day before the match, showing no signs of discomfort, and was seen warming up shortly before game time.
On the other hand, the Lucknow Super Giants have opted not to make any changes to the team that faced the Gujarat Titans in their last outing. Captain Rishabh Pant remarked on the conditions: “It’s a good wicket to bat on. In such wickets, you can bat first or bowl first. Ultimately, we’ve got to play better cricket as a group. We need to regroup, take ownership of our roles, and not overthink how we approach the game.”
He also highlighted the importance of leadership among players, reiterating the need to perform under pressure and contribute to the team’s success.
