Impensus Electronics Private Limited, a deep-tech startup incubated at IIT Madras Research Park, has successfully raised ₹1.6 crore in its Pre-Series A funding round, attracting investments from angel investors associated with the Keiretsu Forum Chennai Chapter and IN44 Capital.
Founded by Guru Vignesh V and Dinesh Narayanan, Impensus has created a controlled environment technology platform designed to monitor and regulate key parameters—such as ethylene concentrations, temperature, and humidity—within enclosed ripening and storage chambers. This innovative system aims to extend the shelf life of perishable produce, minimize spoilage, and standardize ripening outcomes.
The company is currently targeting bananas, mangoes, apples, and specialized edible mushrooms. Its commercial partnerships include notable names like BigBasket and the Paiyur group, along with other major distributors that support quick commerce companies such as Hyperpure and Zepto, thereby enhancing the credibility and scalability of its technology.
The funds raised will be utilized to scale commercial operations, advance product development, and obtain regulatory approvals for solutions aimed at reducing post-harvest losses within the agricultural supply chain. Impensus’ ability to actively control ethylene—the plant hormone that regulates the ripening process—alongside a broader set of microclimate variables is cited as a distinctive advantage.
In addition to private investments, Impensus has received institutional support from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of the Government of India through the Crescent Innovation and Incubation Council (CIIC).
“Our platform provides produce handlers with the capability to precisely control the biological processes affecting shelf life, as opposed to merely relying on refrigeration,” said Guru Vignesh V, Co-founder and CEO of Impensus Electronics. “This funding round will enable us to enhance our technology and expand its reach across the value chain.”
“Impensus exemplifies the type of deep-tech opportunity that Keiretsu Forum Chennai is eager to support—a competent founding team, proprietary technology addressing significant economic challenges, and early validation from distinguished clients,” stated Gowtham Sarvesh R R, Partner at Keiretsu Forum Chennai and Singapore, who led the fundraising efforts.
