The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is poised to retain power in Puducherry, securing a second consecutive term as the counting of votes for the April 9 assembly elections continues. The Union territory saw a significant voter turnout of 89.87% across its 30 constituencies. Currently, NDA candidates have won or are leading in 15 constituencies, just one seat shy of the majority mark.
Led by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy from the All India NR Congress (AINRC), the NDA government is set to be the first to be re-elected in Puducherry since the Congress accomplished this feat in 2006. Under a seat-sharing agreement, AINRC contested 16 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded candidates in 14. Additionally, the BJP allocated two seats each to the AIADMK and Latchiya Jananagaya Katchi and contested in 10 constituencies.
