Hindustan Zinc Limited, the largest zinc producer in India, has announced the signing of an additional power delivery agreement with Serentica Renewables. This agreement increases the company’s renewable energy capacity from 450 MW to 530 MW, covering over 70% of its total power requirements.

On the NSE, the shares of Hindustan Zinc Limited closed at ₹428 today, marking an increase of ₹1.55 or 0.36%.

The new agreement ensures a minimum of 315 MW of uninterrupted power through every 15-minute time block. It will utilize a combination of solar, wind, and energy storage technologies across multiple locations in India. The project is anticipated to be fully operational by 2027.

Hindustan Zinc has already started receiving power from Serentica’s 180 MW solar park, which is being used to produce “EcoZen,” Asia’s first low-carbon “green” zinc.

CEO Arun Misra mentioned that by securing 70% of power from renewables, the company aims to reduce carbon emissions by nearly 70%, supporting its objective of achieving net zero by 2050 or earlier.

Hindustan Zinc, a part of the Vedanta Group and the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer, has been recognized as the most sustainable company in the metals and mining sector by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 for the second consecutive year.
