Mumbai: Sunrisers Hyderabad stunned Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on April 29, 2026. Batting first, Mumbai opener Ryan Rickelton led the charge with an impressive unbeaten 123 runs off 55 balls, which helped the team post a formidable total of 243 runs in the first innings. Will Jacks assisted him well, contributing 46 runs off 22 deliveries, while captain Hardik Pandya added some late fireworks with a quick 31 runs off 15 balls.

Chasing a target of 244 runs, the Hyderabad batsmen had other plans. Travis Head, who had struggled with his form earlier in the season, delivered a remarkable innings, scoring 76 runs off just 30 balls. His opening partner, Abhishek Sharma, played a strong supporting role, adding 45 runs off 24 balls. The pair formed a crucial 129-run partnership, equaling the record for the most century partnerships for the first wicket, previously set by Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner.

After their dismissal, Heinrich Klaasen took command in the middle order, remaining unbeaten on 65 runs off 30 balls, leading Hyderabad to a comfortable victory. Despite the challenging run chase, the Hyderabad batters made it look straightforward.

Following the dismissals of Abhishek Sharma and captain Ishan Kishan by AM Ghazanfar, Mumbai hoped for a resurgence. However, they were unprepared for Klaasen’s explosive performance. Jasprit Bumrah, a key player for the hosts, struggled significantly, conceding 54 runs in his four overs. Trent Boult also failed to meet expectations, leaving Mumbai with limited bowling options, which contributed to their defeat.

With this win, Hyderabad set a new record for the highest successful chase at Wankhede Stadium, surpassing Mumbai’s previous record of 221 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this season.
