Harris debates Baier on immigration in Fox News interview

The interview between Vice President Kamala Harris and Fox News host Bret Baier started off on a contentious note. Baier wasted no time delving into the topic of immigration, confronting Harris with a Trump campaign ad and a video of a grieving mother testifying about the death of her child at the hands of undocumented immigrants. Harris pushed back by highlighting that immigration issues existed before her time as vice president, even during Trump’s administration.

Immigration has emerged as a top issue for voters in the upcoming election, with both Democrats and Republicans vowing to address irregular border crossings. Despite Trump having an advantage in handling immigration policies according to a recent poll, Harris continues to make strides in attracting middle-ground voters and disgruntled Republicans. She has even secured endorsements from prominent Republicans like Dick Cheney and Liz Cheney, emphasizing the bipartisan nature of her campaign.

During the interview, Baier pressed Harris on the high number of border crossings under the Biden administration and alleged crimes associated with them. Harris reiterated the need to fix the broken immigration system and blamed Trump for obstructing bipartisan efforts to reform it. She also emphasized her experience as a former attorney general of a border state in prosecuting crimes related to trafficking.

Baier also challenged Harris on whether her presidency would simply be a continuation of Biden’s administration, to which she firmly stated that she would bring fresh ideas and a new generation of leadership. Harris, who has a background in law enforcement, highlighted her outsider perspective in Washington, inviting input from various sectors to inform her decision-making.

Following the interview, criticism was directed at Baier for his aggressive line of questioning, with former Harris aide Symone Sanders Townsend calling him out for being rude and misleading. Despite the heated exchange, Harris continues to push her campaign forward, appealing to a wide range of voters and emphasizing her commitment to addressing the challenges facing the country.
