Farhan Akhtar’s film Don 3 is currently making headlines due to a recent controversy regarding actor Ranveer Singh. It has been reported that Singh abruptly withdrew from the project, leading production house Excel Entertainment to allege a financial loss amounting to Rs 45 crore. In response, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a Non-Cooperation Directive (NCD) against Singh for his last-minute exit.
When Don 3 was initially announced, fans speculated that Shah Rukh Khan would reprise his iconic role as Don, but Singh was later confirmed as the lead. In a discussion with journalist Faye D’Souza, Akhtar explained his decision to cast Singh instead of Khan. He stated, “When I first started thinking about doing a Don 3, I mean, obviously, I thought of writing something with Shah Rukh in it, but somehow we just couldn’t find the right place to take the story to. We couldn’t find common ground on it, so that didn’t happen.”
Akhtar elaborated, “So I was like, let me just kind of rethink what I want to do with the film and kind of go back. Kind of go back and a little bit more into like a ‘what made Don, Don’ kind of story, and that’s when I started writing it. Then it took on a life of its own, and that obviously needed for there to be a younger actor. Ranveer Singh just felt like absolutely the right guy to go to for it.”
On the work front, Singh was last seen in Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, where he played dual roles: Hamza Ali Mazari and Jaskirat Singh Rangi. This two-part film series achieved blockbuster status at both domestic and worldwide box offices and features notable actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, Gaurav Gera, Arjun Rampal, Danish Pandor, Akshaye Khanna, and Rakesh Bedi in significant roles.
