Exporters anticipate 3.8 lakh tonnes of coffee output in 2024-25

Coffee exporters in India are projecting a record output of 3.8 lakh tonnes for the 2024-25 crop year, with both arabica and robusta varieties currently being harvested in key producing regions. While the Government’s estimates are slightly lower at 3.633 lakh tonnes, exporters are optimistic about the higher production numbers.

Unfavourable weather conditions have impacted coffee growers throughout the year, with arabica and robusta production estimates varying. Robusta output is expected to be around 2.5-2.6 lakh tonnes, while arabica production is projected at 90,000 tonnes. The delayed arabica harvest and adverse climatic conditions have affected overall crop yields, but exporters are hopeful that the total output will reach the projected 3.8 lakh tonnes.

In terms of pricing, experts anticipate a relatively stable market with a slight upward bias due to tight global supplies. The ICO Composite Indicator Price closed 2024 at a 40% increase, reaching new highs and posing challenges for market operations. Despite these price hikes, exporters believe that prices should remain relatively flat with a 10% variation.

Overall, the Indian coffee industry is poised for a strong year ahead, with record production numbers and a positive outlook on prices. With continued demand for Indian coffee on the global market, exporters are optimistic about the future of the industry.
