Over 90,800 internship opportunities have been made available by 193 companies on the Prime Minister Internship Scheme portal prior to the start of applicant registration on October 12. Companies such as Jubilant Foodworks, Maruti Suzuki India, Eicher Motor, Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Muthoot Finance, and Reliance Industries are among those offering opportunities.

The portal was opened on October 3 for companies to post internship opportunities. The pilot project of the scheme, estimated to cost around ₹800 crore, will begin on December 2 and aims to cover 1.25 lakh candidates by March 2025.

According to sources at the corporate affairs ministry, the number of internship opportunities on the portal has reached 90,849 as of October 11. These opportunities span 24 sectors, with the highest number in the oil, gas & energy sector, followed by travel & hospitality, automotive, and banking and financial services.

Opportunities are available in fields such as operations management, production & manufacturing, maintenance, sales & marketing. They are spread across 737 districts in 36 States and Union Territories.

The scheme, introduced in the Union Budget 2024, will be run through the online portal ‘www.pminternship.mca.gov.in’ developed by the corporate affairs ministry. The government aims to provide internships for 1 crore candidates aged 21-24 over 5 years.

Interns will receive a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 for 12 months and a one-time grant of ₹6,000.
