The stock market in India started off on a positive note in 2025, with the Sensex and Nifty closing higher on the first trading day of the year. The BSE Sensex ended the day 0.47% higher at 78,507.41, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 0.41% to close at 23,742.90. This positive trend was led by strong gains in auto stocks and capital goods sectors.

One of the key highlights of the day was Maruti Suzuki India Ltd reporting a 30% rise in total wholesales for December 2024 compared to the same month a year ago. This is a significant increase and shows the strength of the auto sector in the market.

Another major development was the news that Mukesh Ambani has initiated the process for the initial public offer of Reliance Jio Infocomm. The IPO is estimated to be in the range of ₹35,000-40,000 crore, showcasing the potential size and impact of this offering.

In terms of other news, safe haven investments like gold and silver outperformed equities in 2024, with impressive returns. The equity derivatives segment saw a dip in turnover to a 13-month low in December, and the rupee hit a new low of 85.64 against the US dollar on the first trading day of the year.

In terms of stock recommendations, IRB Infrastructure Developers was highlighted as a stock to buy, with expectations of a price increase to ₹70 in the near-term after a recent recovery.

Overall, the first trading day of 2025 saw positive momentum in the Indian stock market, with key developments in various sectors and companies impacting the market. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis as the year progresses.
