Delhi Assembly Election Schedule Set to be Revealed Today at 2 PM

The Election Commission of India is set to announce the polling schedule for the 70-member Delhi Assembly at 2 PM on Tuesday.

Delhi will experience a triangular contest featuring the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress Party. Unlike the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, AAP and Congress have chosen to compete independently this time, as Congress seeks to strengthen its influence in the national capital.

The AAP is currently grappling with anti-incumbency sentiments after a decade in power, and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is under significant scrutiny due to personal corruption allegations.

In the last assembly elections held on February 8, 2020, AAP achieved a remarkable victory, winning 62 seats while the BJP captured 8, and Congress failed to secure any representation. The voter turnout for those elections was recorded at 62.82 percent, which was 4.66 percent lower than the turnout during the 2015 assembly polls.

Once the Election Commission announces the poll dates on Tuesday, the model code of conduct will take effect. The current term of the Delhi Assembly is set to conclude on February 23.
