Thirteen individuals were killed and 16 others sustained injuries when a pickup truck driving north on the wrong side of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway was involved in an accident on Monday. The incident occurred near Dhaniwari village in Maharashtra’s Dahanu, as a larger truck traveling south swerved to avoid the pickup, causing its container to fall onto the vehicle, which was carrying approximately 50 members of an engagement party.

Authorities reported that the pickup driver reportedly opted for an illegal shortcut instead of taking a designated U-turn located about a kilometer away. Concerns have been raised that the death toll may rise, as several of the injured are in critical condition, according to reports by Vishal Rajemahadik.
