Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured their second consecutive victory and third in four matches by defeating Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, May 5. The Super Kings successfully chased down a target of 156 runs in 17.3 overs, winning by eight wickets, with significant contributions from Sanju Samson and Kartik Sharma.
After enduring a tough start to the season, having lost three matches in a row, CSK appears to be back in contention for the playoffs. They now have five wins from seven matches, accumulating 10 points and improving their net run rate (NRR) to 0.151, and currently occupy the sixth position in the points table. This revitalization has sparked hope among fans for a playoff berth.
Looking ahead, CSK will play their 11th match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at home on May 10, followed by an away game against LSG on May 15. With LSG struggling in the league, CSK is optimistic about winning both encounters. The five-time champions will then face Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on May 18, followed by their final league stage match on the road against Gujarat Titans on May 21.
To qualify for the playoffs, CSK must aim for victory in three of their remaining four matches, which would raise their total points to 16—likely sufficient to secure a playoff spot.
In the match against Delhi, Samson scored a robust 87 runs from 52 deliveries, and Kartik contributed 41 runs from 31 balls. The duo formed an unbroken partnership of 114 runs for the third wicket after CSK faced early setbacks. Their steady play not only stabilized the innings but also kept the scoring rate healthy, ultimately allowing CSK to achieve their target with eight wickets remaining. Earlier, Delhi Capitals struggled on the challenging pitch, with CSK’s spinners performing well throughout the match.
