A traveler with recent travel history from Uganda has been isolated at a government hospital in Bengaluru after experiencing mild body ache. This development has led to increased surveillance by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare amid ongoing Ebola outbreaks in parts of Africa.

On Wednesday, the ministry reported that the individual has been admitted to the State-run Epidemic Diseases Hospital for observation and further evaluation. Officials confirmed that the individual is otherwise healthy and stable, apart from the reported mild body ache.

A sample has been collected from the patient and sent to the National Institute of Virology for laboratory testing, with results pending. The ministry emphasized that no case of Ebola Virus Disease has been confirmed in India to date.

“The Government of India is closely monitoring the evolving Ebola Virus Disease situation in light of recent outbreaks reported in Africa,” the ministry stated. Health authorities indicated that the Centre, in coordination with the Karnataka government and relevant agencies, is maintaining close surveillance and adhering to all necessary public health protocols in accordance with World Health Organization guidelines.

The government also noted that screening and surveillance measures are ongoing at designated points of entry and throughout the public health system as part of preparedness efforts. Citizens have been urged not to panic or disseminate misinformation, with a recommendation to rely solely on official sources for updates regarding the Ebola situation.
