The Baramulla-Uri section of the National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir was closed near Lagama on Sunday due to a significant landslide, disrupting traffic on this vital route. The incident blocked the road, prompting local authorities to redirect traffic via the Bandi-Paranpillan-Dachi route towards Uri to ensure connectivity while clearance operations are ongoing, according to news agency ANI.
Officials have mobilized teams equipped with heavy machinery to remove the debris and restore normal movement as soon as possible. Visuals from the scene depict workers clearing boulders obstructing the roadway. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported at this time.
In a separate incident on Saturday, the Doda-Kishtwar road in Doda district was also obstructed following a major landslide near Gatsoo, near Pul Doda, which affected vehicular movement on that route. The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police reported that the landslide occurred early in the morning, completely blocking the road link. “The Doda-Kishtwar road is blocked due to a major landslide at Gatsoo near Pul Doda. Men and machinery are on the job; however, it will take some time to clear. Commuters are advised to avoid travel on the Doda-Kishtwar road until it is fully restored,” stated an advisory.
Additionally, in another incident within the Bantalab area of Jammu, at least three laborers lost their lives when an under-construction section of a bridge collapsed. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary expressed his grief over the incident, noting, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of three lives. Four individuals were trapped; three have died, and one survived safely.” He also mentioned that actions have been initiated, including the suspension of two officials, attachment of another, and the blacklisting of the contractor, while an inquiry is currently underway.
