AAP Leader Amanatullah Khan Secures Pre-Arrest Bail in Police Team ‘Attack’ Case

A Delhi court has granted pre-arrest bail to Aam Aadmi Party leader Amanatullah Khan, who was implicated in the alleged assault on a Delhi Police team in Jamia Nagar. The court has instructed Khan to cooperate in the investigation.

Delhi Police had requested Khan’s custody to interrogate him and establish his presence at the location of the alleged incident. In response, Khan sought anticipatory bail in court.

The FIR states that a police team arrived at the scene on February 10 at 3 PM to apprehend Shavez Khan, a suspect in a 2018 case. However, MLA Okhla, along with a group of 20-25 individuals, allegedly hindered the officers’ efforts.

On February 13, the court granted Khan interim protection from arrest until February 24, noting that the police’s claim—that he helped the accused escape—lacked substance, as the individual in question was already out on anticipatory bail.

The court had earlier expressed discontent with Delhi Police for failing to submit a supplementary charge sheet against Shavez Khan and for not revoking his proclaimed offender status despite his anticipatory bail. During the proceedings, additional public prosecutor Atul Shrivastava contended that custodial interrogation was essential due to inconsistencies in the statements made by Amanatullah Khan and Shavez Khan.
