Symbiotec Pharmalab, a notable player in the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors, is gearing up to raise ₹1,757 crore through its upcoming initial public offering (IPO). This financial move comprises a mix of a fresh equity issue and an offer for sale, with a price band set between ₹938 and ₹988 per share.

Details of the IPO

The IPO will open for subscription on Monday, allowing investors to bid for a minimum of 15 equity shares, with further bids available in multiples of 15. The fresh issue accounts for up to ₹150 crore, whereas the offer for sale totals around ₹1,607 crore. Major stakeholders such as Satwani Holdings LLP and institutional investors—including Rosewood Investments and the Motilal Oswal Private Equity-backed India Business Excellence Fund – III—are set to divest shares worth ₹144 crore, ₹988 crore, and ₹475 crore, respectively.

The red herring prospectus outlines that the promoters hold a 36.4% share in Symbiotec, while Rosewood and India Business Excellence Fund hold 34.78% and 24.16%, respectively. The company’s valuation is estimated to be approximately ₹6,350 crore at the upper price band.

Company Overview and Operations

Based in Indore, Symbiotec Pharmalab specializes in research and development, equipped to operate across multiple platforms: organic chemistry, biotechnology, and complex injectables. The company serves as a contract development and manufacturing organization, supplying both specialty pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals on a global scale.

Symbiotec is particularly notable for its leadership in the production of corticosteroid and steroidal-hormone active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). With a global volume market share of 38.2% in corticosteroids and 23.8% in steroidal hormones, the firm has reinforced its position as a key player in these segments.

To bolster its production capabilities, the company operates two API manufacturing facilities, featuring a chemical synthesis capacity of 584.67 tonnes and a fermentation capacity of 300 kilolitres. It is also in the process of expanding its biologics manufacturing capabilities with the addition of a dedicated fermentation capacity of 14 kilolitres at its Ujjain location.

Recent Financial Performance

Symbiotec Pharmalab reported a profit of ₹110 crore for the fiscal year ending March 2026, marking a 13.6% increase from ₹97 crore in the previous fiscal year. During the same timeframe, revenue surged by 15.6%, reaching ₹869 crore compared to ₹752 crore in the previous period.

Following the IPO, the company expects its equity shares to be listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on September 1. Leading investment banks—JM Financial, Avendus Capital, Motilal Oswal, and Nomura Financial—are acting as book-running lead managers for the IPO, while MUFG Intime India will serve as the registrar.

What This Means

The launch of Symbiotec Pharmalab’s IPO is a significant moment not only for the company but also for the pharmaceutical sector in India. As a country that plays a crucial role in global healthcare, Indian pharmaceutical firms are increasingly turning to public markets for capital, which can fuel further innovations and expansions. This IPO could serve as a benchmark for similar companies in the sector to consider going public, thereby enhancing transparency and accountability in an industry that is vital for both domestic and international markets.
