New Delhi: In 2022, businessman Lalit Modi generated considerable attention by publicly announcing his relationship with actor and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen. This disclosure was made through a series of photographs shared on his social media account from their vacations, confirming their partnership. Although they have since parted ways, their photos continue to be visible on Modi’s account.

Announcement of Relationship

The announcement quickly became a trending topic online, prompting widespread discussion on social media. The images depicted the couple enjoying various vacations in locations such as the Maldives and Sardinia. In his original post, Modi wrote, “Just back in London after a whirling global tour #Maldives #Sardinia with the families – not to mention my #better looking partner @sushmitasen47 – a new beginning a new life finally. Over the moon. In love does not mean marriage YET. BUT ONE THAT For sure (sic).”

He followed up with a clarification, stating, “Just for clarity. Not married – just dating each other. That too it will happen one day.”

Insight from Lalit Modi

In a recent interview with Humans of Bombay, Modi disclosed that Sen was with him during the announcement. He recounted that Sushmita was skeptical he would actually post the message, recalling an argument they had on the plane just before he made the announcement. “I laughed and pressed the button,” he recounted, highlighting the immediate online reaction upon landing in London.

“By the time we landed, all hell had broken loose. But there was nothing wrong with it. She never asked me to take it down, and I never considered doing that,” he stated. Modi expressed he has no regrets about publicizing their relationship, noting that it dominated social media discourse for several days. “But we had a beautiful story and I don’t regret a single minute of it,” he added.

Reflecting on their relationship, Modi emphasized Sushmita’s significant impact on his life. He lauded her role in helping him grow personally and described their bond as deeply meaningful. “Sushmita was very special to me. She made me grow into a lot of things that I am today,” he said, acknowledging the challenges they faced due to long distances and differing life commitments.

Modi concluded by wishing Sushmita well, praising her remarkable journey as a single mother to her daughters, Renee and Alisah.

In a subsequent interview in 2023, Sushmita Sen referred to their time together as “just another phase” in her life.
