New Delhi: The stage is set for a highly anticipated clash as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) face off against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) final, regarded as one of the most prestigious titles in cricket. RCB topped the group stage with nine victories and an impressive net run rate, while GT ranked second.
In their previous encounter during Qualifier 1, RCB dominated GT, with captain Rajat Patidar scoring an explosive 93 runs off 33 balls. RCB’s bowlers, including Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna, seek redemption after being on the receiving end of that loss. Chasing a daunting target of 255, GT faltered and managed to score only 162.
As both teams prepare for their showdown at Narendra Modi Stadium, several key matchups could determine the outcome.
1 – Virat Kohli vs Kagiso Rabada: This matchup promises to be particularly intriguing. Kohli has amassed 131 runs against Rabada in 17 T20 innings but has fallen victim to him five times, holding an average of 26.2 and a strike rate of 143.95.
2 – Kohli vs Jason Holder: Kohli’s face-off against Holder adds another layer of excitement. The RCB star has scored 98 runs off Holder in 10 innings but has been dismissed on four occasions, including twice this season.
3 – Shubman Gill vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar: GT captain Shubman Gill will be another key player to watch. He has scored 80 runs in 14 T20 innings against Bhuvneshwar Kumar, with an average of 13.33 and a strike rate of 101.26, having been dismissed six times.
4 – Jos Buttler vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar: Bhuvneshwar’s success against Jos Buttler is notable as well. Buttler’s statistics show he has scored 123 runs across 21 innings against Bhuvneshwar, averaging 13.66 and maintaining a strike rate of 110.81, while being dismissed nine times.
5 – Devdutt Padikkal vs Rashid Khan: Devdutt Padikkal has been crucial for RCB this season, though he struggles against leg-spinner Rashid Khan. Padikkal has made just 40 runs in nine innings against Rashid, averaging 8 and with a strike rate of 90.9, and has been dismissed five times by him.
