Kolkata Knight Riders Resurge with Win Against Mumbai Indians
Kolkata: The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have returned to their winning ways after a challenging start to the 2026 IPL season, having lost their first six matches. In their latest outing at Eden Gardens, the team effectively controlled the game against the Mumbai Indians, limiting their opponents to a total of 147 runs.
Mumbai faced early struggles, losing four wickets during the powerplay, failing to secure a strong start from their senior players, including Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton, and Suryakumar Yadav. The pressure mounted on the middle order, which was unable to counter the formidable bowling performance from KKR, particularly from spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy.
Corbin Bosch managed to score a quick 32 runs off 18 balls, helping Mumbai finish their innings on a slightly positive note. For KKR, bowlers Cameron Green, Saurabh Dubey, and Kartik Tyagi each took two wickets.
In the second innings, KKR confronted early setbacks with Finn Allen departing after scoring just eight runs from five balls. Manish Pandey, replacing Angkrish Raghuvanshi who missed the innings due to concussion, formed a crucial partnership with Ajinkya Rahane, who contributed 21 runs from 17 balls. Pandey’s 45 runs off 33 balls kept KKR within reach of Mumbai’s total, while Rovman Powell added 40 runs, pushing the three-time champions closer to victory.
However, the chase became precarious as KKR lost two quick wickets towards the end. Nevertheless, Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy stepped up to secure the win for the hosts. This victory revives KKR’s hopes for a playoff spot, contingent on the outcomes of upcoming matches involving Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
