The Supreme Court of India on Friday directed the Central Government to respond on measures to strengthen the National Testing Agency (NTA) and to enhance the security of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The court emphasized the importance of preventing any future leaks of the examination question papers, calling such incidents “traumatic” for students. “We should not disappoint our youngsters,” the court stated, underscoring the necessity of assigning responsibility should similar issues arise in the future.
In response, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the court that new mechanisms have been established for a NEET re-test. He assured the court that the government is seriously addressing the concerns of students, with the Prime Minister personally monitoring efforts to eliminate any potential lapses.
This directive follows petitions filed by the All India Medical Association and the United Doctors Front, which accused the NTA of compromising the integrity of one of the country’s largest and most competitive examinations. Previously, the Supreme Court criticized the NTA, expressing disappointment that the agency had not learned from past incidents of NEET paper leaks.
