New Delhi: The Gujarat Titans have demonstrated remarkable consistency in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. They secured a top-two finish in the league standings and are set to compete in Qualifier 1 after defeating the Chennai Super Kings by 89 runs in the tournament’s 66th match.
In a clash held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Titans delivered a compelling performance, posting a total of 229 runs after opting to bat first. Captain Shubman Gill commented on the team’s efforts during the post-match presentation. “Nothing. I mean, after the 12 games, we were at number one last season. So, same for this season as well. We lost the last two games last season. Both the games were here, and we played the last game against the same opposition, and they scored 230. I think we got bundled out for 110-120 runs. So, there was some deja vu going into this match, but I don’t think there’s anything differently that we have done this season,” Gill remarked.
This victory marked the Titans’ largest win in IPL history, as they limited CSK to just 140 runs in response. As a result, Chennai Super Kings have effectively been eliminated from the tournament. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 22, with SRH still having a slim mathematical chance of surpassing RCB for the top spot.
