New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants secured a significant victory over Chennai Super Kings in the 59th match of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2026, held at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on May 15. After winning the toss, Chennai Super Kings opted to bat first.
Chennai initiated their innings with Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad, scoring 20 and 13 runs respectively. Urvil Patel was dismissed for six runs, while Kartik Sharma starred with the bat, accumulating 71 runs off 42 balls. Dewald Brevis contributed 25 runs from 16 balls, and Shivam Dube added an unbeaten 32 runs off 16 deliveries. Prashant Veer finished with 13 not out as Chennai Super Kings set a total of 187 runs in their innings. For Lucknow Super Giants, Akash Singh claimed three wickets, with Mohammed Shami and Shahbaz Ahmed each taking one.
In the chase, Lucknow Super Giants launched their innings with Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis. Inglis made 36 runs off 32 balls, while Marsh emerged as the standout player, scoring an impressive 90 runs in just 38 deliveries, effectively leading his team. Nicholas Pooran also played a crucial role, finishing the match with 33 runs off 17 balls, allowing Lucknow to successfully chase down the target in 16.4 overs and win the match by seven wickets.
On the bowling front for Chennai, Mukesh Choudhary and Spencer Johnson each claimed one wicket. Following this loss, Chennai Super Kings’ chances of qualification have been jeopardized, but they remain determined as they look forward to their next match.
