Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have confirmed their unchanged playing XI for the important match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium for IPL 2026. This decision means that Finn Allen, Cameron Green, Rovman Powell, and Sunil Narine will continue as the team’s four overseas players. Matheesha Pathirana remains sidelined, still waiting for his opportunity.
Pathirana, the Sri Lankan international who joined KKR two weeks ago, has not yet made it onto the field despite training with the team. He is recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the T20 World Cup, and although the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has given him clearance, KKR is opting for caution. KKR mentor Dwayne Bravo stated, “He is very close to playing, but we do not want to rush him because of the nature of his injury. We all want to see him back, but timing is important. It is great to have someone of his quality around the group again.”
KKR has not publicly detailed the specifics of Pathirana’s injury or when he might make his return. The three-time IPL champions have secured three consecutive wins, prompting them to maintain their current lineup without changes, which could affect Pathirana’s potential debut.
In the lead-up to the match against Delhi, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to bowl first. Rahane explained the decision, stating that the pitch has displayed varied conditions in recent games, and he prefers to assess the surface before pursuing a chase. “We’re going to bowl first. The last 3-4 games we saw—it’s been kind of very different games: 264, 160, and a low-scoring game against RCB. It’s important to see the wicket, how it’s playing, and then it becomes easier to bat on. But having said that, winning or losing the toss is all about playing good cricket for 40 overs,” he remarked.
KKR Playing XI: Ajinkya Rahane (captain), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (wicketkeeper), Cameron Green, Rovman Powell, Manish Pandey, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, Kartik Tyagi, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy.
Delhi Capitals Playing XI: Pathum Nissanka, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi, Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel (captain), Ashutosh Sharma, Vipraj Nigam, Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar.
