Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Sunil Narine made history by becoming the first player to claim 200 wickets for a single franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This milestone was achieved during KKR’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 3, 2026.
Narine, who has spent his entire IPL career with KKR, showcased his skills at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Despite being initially expensive in his first two overs, he bounced back strongly, dismissing Salil Arora off the first ball of his final over. Narine then had Ishan Kishan caught at long-off by Anukul Roy, with Arora’s wicket marking his landmark 200.
The list of most wickets for a single franchise in IPL history now includes:
- 200: Sunil Narine for KKR
- 186: Jasprit Bumrah for Mumbai Indians
- 170: Lasith Malinga for Mumbai Indians
- 157: Bhuvneshwar Kumar for Sunrisers Hyderabad
- 143: Ravindra Jadeja for Chennai Super Kings
- 139: Yuzvendra Chahal for Royal Challengers Bangalore
- 139: Dwayne Bravo for Chennai Super Kings
In addition to being the first foreign player to reach 200 wickets, Narine ranks third overall behind Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. His current tally stands at 201 wickets, while Chahal leads with 228, and Bhuvneshwar follows with 215.
During the match, KKR bowled SRH out for 165 runs. After a promising start at 105/1, thanks to Travis Head’s explosive innings of 61 from 28 balls, SRH faltered dramatically, losing several wickets in quick succession. Varun Chakravarthy excelled with the ball for KKR, finishing with figures of 3/36, while Narine contributed with 2/31. Kartik Tyagi also claimed 2 wickets for 30 runs.
This performance cements Narine’s legacy as a key player in IPL history, further showcasing KKR’s competitive strength in the league.
