New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are facing a challenging 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, having lost five out of six matches played thus far, with one match yielding no result due to rain.
In their most recent match on April 17 against Gujarat Titans, KKR posted a total of 180 runs after batting first. However, they were unable to defend that total, as the Titans successfully chased it down, winning by five wickets with a total of 181 runs.
This defeat places KKR alongside several other teams, including Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, all of which have failed to secure a victory in their first six matches of an IPL season. As a result, KKR sits at the bottom of the standings with only one point, signaling an urgent need for improvement in their campaign.
Following the loss, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane expressed his thoughts during the post-match presentation. “Yeah, as you said, it’s never easy after immediately after losing the game and come and talk about the game,” Rahane said. He highlighted the positive contributions during the match, particularly mentioning Cameron Green’s innings. “Cameron Green’s innings, he was under pressure, but the kind of counter-attack he did, positive impact, what he made was amazing to see, going after their bowlers,” Rahane noted. He acknowledged the batting unit’s struggle to reach 180 runs from a challenging position of 147 for four, but he commended the bowlers for their efforts, stating that they took the game to the last over and that everyone contributed well.
With their current form, KKR’s management and players are expected to re-evaluate strategies to turn their season around.
