Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigned on Tuesday, April 14, submitting his resignation to Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd) at Lok Bhavan in Patna. The resignation comes amid shifting political dynamics in the state.

Following Kumar’s resignation, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is poised to become the next Chief Minister. This transition marks the first time the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold the Chief Minister’s position in Bihar.

Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, appointed by the BJP parliamentary board as a central observer for the legislature party leader’s election, confirmed that Choudhary was unanimously elected as the BJP’s legislative party leader.

With 89 MLAs, the BJP stands as the single largest party in the 243-member Bihar assembly.
