O’Romeo will be released in theatres soon, and the film’s teaser and trailer have seemingly impressed the audience. A buzz for the Vishal Bharadwaj film can also be noticed on and off social media. But do you know the filmmaker was supposed to make a film on a similar plot with Piku stars Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan? Yes! You read that right. Vishal Bharadwaj had planned to make a movie titled Sapna Didi that focused majorly on Rahima Khan. However, due to Irrfan Khan’s poor health and creative problems, the film could not be made. Now, after several years, Vishal Bharadwaj is back on the project, but with a different take and a different cast: Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri.
But during the O’Romeo trailer launch, Vishal Bharadwaj was asked about Sapna Didi. Let’s see what he had to say about Deepika Padukone’s shelved film.
Deepika had shot for Sapna Didi
Deepika Padukone, along with Irrfan Khan, had even shot for half a schedule of Sapna Didi. However, following Irrfan Khan’s poor health, followed by his death, and Vishal’s reported creative differences with director Honey Trehan, the film got shelved. Reportedly, Vishal was supposed to make a film titled Sapna Didi with Deepika Padukone as the underworld queen Rahima Khan and Irrfan Khan as gangster Hussain Ustara.
During the O’ Romeo trailer launch, Vishal, for the first time, spoke about Sapna Didi and said, “That script and the cast were different, but this is a different film. This film is titled O Romeo, and when I first started working on the film, I never thought we would have this title. But the story evolved, it (draft) underwent many changes. This film has nothing to do with the earlier film.”
Pankaj Tripathi was also a part of Sapna Didi
During an interview with Samdish, Pankaj Tripathi had confirmed that he was shooting for Sapna Didi along with Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan. He had also expressed admiration towards both the actors. However, the film could never be completed. But it seems like the story stayed by Vishal Bharadwaj, as after 7 years, the filmmaker is back with O’Romeo.
All about O’Romeo
O’Romeo features Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Farida Jalal, Disha Patani, with Vikrant Massey in a special appearance. The film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 13 this year.
