Escalating Violence: Israel’s Actions in Gaza Lead to 24 Deaths Amidst Ceasefire Accusations

Authorities in Gaza on Saturday accused Israel of committing nearly 500 violations of a ceasefire agreement since it took effect, saying the alleged breaches have resulted in hundreds of civilian casualties. The statement comes as Israel launched a wave of air attacks across Gaza, killing at least 24 Palestinians, including children, in its latest violation of a six-week-old ceasefire.

In a statement, the Government Media Office in Gaza said it had documented 497 violations by Israeli forces as of Saturday evening, including 27 incidents earlier in the day that it said killed 24 people and wounded 87 others.

According to the statement, the alleged violations since the start of the truce have left 342 civilians dead — most of them children, women and elderly — and 875 others wounded. It also accused Israeli forces of arbitrarily detaining 35 people during raids and incursions.

The office said the incidents included 142 cases of direct gunfire, 21 incursions by military vehicles into residential or agricultural areas, 228 bombardments by land, air or artillery, and 100 demolitions of homes and civilian facilities. It described the actions as systematic and in breach of international humanitarian law.

The statement condemned what it called Israel’s “continued and systematic violations” of the ceasefire and said the alleged actions undermine efforts to maintain calm in the Gaza Strip. It called on U.S. President Donald Trump, mediating governments and the U.N. Security Council, to pressure Israel to abide by the agreement and protect civilians.

Hamas accused Israel of “systematic” violations that it said resulted in widespread casualties from airstrikes and allowed Israeli forces to shift withdrawal lines in ways that contradict agreed-upon maps.

Izzat al-Rishq, Member of the Political Bureau of the Hamas Movement, said Israel is “is fabricating pretexts to evade the agreement and return to the war of genocide; it is the one that violates the agreement daily and systematically.”

“The reports published by Israeli sources claiming that Hamas informed Mr. Witkoff that the [ceasefire] agreement had ended are untrue,” he said in a statement.

The group rejected what it called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s attempts to “impose a fait accompli” and urged mediators to intervene urgently. It also called on the U.S. administration to “fulfill its commitments” and pressure Israel to comply with the agreement.
