New Delhi:

India clinched the Women’s World Cup 2025, ending their long-awaited wait for an ICC title as they defeated South Africa in the final at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. The Women in Blue defeated the Proteas in the final by 52 runs to end their heartbreaks of the past and clinch a world title.

Indian talismanic batters captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana shared an emotional moment with each other after the victory in the final. The two stars hugged each other and broke down in emotion as the cameras panned to catch their glimpse at the DY Patil.

Watch the video here:

After several heartbreaks of the past, India have finally crossed the finishing line to win their maiden-ever ICC women’s trophy. They had endured heartbreaks in the past with their defeats in the 2017 World Cup final, 2020 T20 World Cup final and semifinals in the 2018 and 2023 T20 World Cups, but now have their moment of joy with a world title under their belt.

India defended 298 in the final with Deepti Sharma taking a brilliant five-wicket haul, while Shafali Verma also took two crucial wickets in the clash. Deepti removed the likes of Laura Wolvaardt, Annerie Dercksen, Chloe Tryon, Nadine de Klerk and Sinalo Jafta to clinch her five-wicket haul. Shafali also took the wickets of Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp and helped India defend the huge total.

The Women in Blue had put up 298/6 batting first, with Shafali and Deepti scoring half-centuries. Shafali put up 87 from 78 balls, while Deepti scored a run-a-ball 58 to provide a strong finish. Shafali had earlier put up 104 for the opening wicket with Smriti Mandhana.

Meanwhile, Shafali was adjudged as the Player of the Match, while Deepti was named the Player of the Tournament for having scored 212 runs and having taken 22 wickets.
