Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated as the Chief Guest in the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) held in New Delhi today.

During the event, the Prime Minister unveiled a commemorative postage stamp and a specially designed coin that honors the RSS’s contributions to the nation.

Founded on Vijayadashami in 1925 in Nagpur, Maharashtra by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the RSS was established as a volunteer organization aimed at promoting cultural awareness, discipline, service, and social responsibility among citizens, according to a government statement.

In his address to the attendees, Prime Minister Modi highlighted ten significant points:

  1. The establishment of the RSS on Dussehra a century ago was not mere coincidence; it represented a revival of a tradition that has persisted for thousands of years. This centenary is a momentous occasion for the Sangh.

  2. The ₹100 coin features the National Emblem on one side and an image of Bharat Mata seated on a lion in ‘varad mudra’ on the other, with swayamsevaks bowing before her in dedication. This marks the first time in independent India that Bharat Mata’s image has appeared on currency. The special postal stamp released also holds importance, depicting RSS swayamsevaks’ participation in the Republic Day Parade in 1963—a historic moment.

  3. The Sangh embodies the principle that common individuals can come together to achieve extraordinary results, with Sangha Sakhas likened to ‘Yagna Vedi.’

  4. The RSS’s remarkable 100-year journey exemplifies sacrifice, selfless service, nation-building, and discipline.

  5. The current generation of swayamsevaks is fortunate to witness the centenary of the RSS.

  6. Since its inception, the RSS has prioritized nation-building.

  7. Although RSS operates across various societal segments, there are no contradictions among them, as they adhere to the principle of prioritizing the nation.

  8. The RSS upholds the motto ‘One India, Great India,’ yet challenges arose post-Independence that hindered its integration into the national mainstream.

  9. Today’s challenges and struggles differ; they include economic dependency on foreign nations and conspiracies aimed at undermining unity or altering demographics. As Prime Minister, I speak with humility in stating my satisfaction with the government’s effective handling of these issues.

  10. The Sangh shakha serves as an inspirational ground where the journey from the individual ‘I’ to the collective ‘we’ is initiated.
