More than 100,000 individuals participated in a rally in Berlin, expressing their opposition to Germany’s support for Israel amidst the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. The demonstration, organized by a diverse coalition of approximately 50 groups, including pro-Palestinian organizations, Medico International, Amnesty International, and the opposition Left Party, commenced at Berlin’s City Hall and concluded at the Grosser Stern. The rally, titled “All Eyes on Gaza – Stop the Genocide,” demanded an end to what organizers describe as “German complicity” in Israel’s actions and called for a cessation of military cooperation with Israel, including all arms exports and imports. Participants chanted slogans such as “Free, free Palestine” and displayed banners urging an end to violence in Gaza. A recent YouGov poll indicated that 62 percent of German voters believe Israeli actions in Gaza constitute genocide, reflecting a growing public sentiment urging the government to reevaluate its stance on the matter. While Chancellor Merz and Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul have intensified their criticisms of Israel’s military actions, they have refrained from labeling the situation as genocide and have not recognized the State of Palestine, unlike several other nations that have taken this step.
