In a distressing event in Sadasar village, Churu district, Rajasthan, a group of Dalit men was reportedly assaulted by caste-Hindu individuals while attempting to enter a temple during a ‘shobha yatra’ procession on Sunday.

The incident transpired in the evening following a ‘Bhagwat Katha’ event. As the procession moved from the recital venue to a nearby temple, 19-year-old Kanaram Meghwal and several others sought to enter the temple for prayer. However, they were allegedly met with resistance and violence from several villagers, including individuals named Surdas Swami, Shankarlal, Himmat Kumar, and Anil, as per an FIR filed by Meghwal.

According to the FIR, the accused obstructed the Dalit men from entering the temple based solely on their caste. When the youths raised their voices against the discrimination, they were reportedly subjected to verbal abuse and physical attacks. Meghwal stated that Shankarlal struck his hand with a stick, leading him to fall and sustain injuries. The FIR also claims that the accused threatened the crowd, declaring that “no Dalit will be allowed to enter the temple.”

In response to this incident, members of the Dalit community staged a protest outside the local police station, demanding timely and stringent action against the accused. Authorities have since deployed forces to ensure peace in the village and have promised a thorough investigation, with the assurance of strict measures against the perpetrators.
