New Delhi: The stage is set for a highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup tournament, scheduled for September 21 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India secured a decisive victory against Pakistan earlier in the tournament and will be aiming for a repeat performance in the upcoming encounter.

Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has expressed his support for opener Shubman Gill, urging him to return to form during the match against Pakistan. Gill has struggled with low scores throughout the Asia Cup, failing to make an impact in his first three games. In a video on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth emphasized the importance of Gill’s performance and offered advice to help him succeed.

“Shubman Gill coming back to form is very important. I think he’ll score in this match (vs. Pakistan). He’s the Indian Test captain and likely all-format captain in the future. The ball coming in constantly troubles him because he plays early. My suggestion to him would be to play more straight. Instead of cover driving, he should play the off drive more until he gets set,” Srikkanth stated.

Srikkanth also addressed concerns regarding Gill’s position in the T20I squad given his underwhelming performance in the Asia Cup. He posited that Gill’s role as vice-captain bolsters his standing within the team.

“The very fact that they’ve given him the vice-captaincy means he’s a certainty. In the expected 15-man squad I had pre-Asia Cup, he wasn’t included in my team. In fact, not many anticipated his inclusion. However, since they’ve made him the vice-captain, they are looking to establish him as the all-format captain in the future, especially considering his strong performances in the IPL,” Srikkanth explained.
