Financial Aid for Auto Drivers in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a financial support initiative for auto drivers, set to provide ₹15,000 for the fiscal year 2024-25 on October 1, 2025. This decision comes in response to requests from auto drivers affected by the implementation of free travel for women on state-run RTC buses, which began on August 15.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu revealed the support under the ‘Vahana Mitra Scheme,’ aimed at assisting those whose livelihoods may be impacted by the new bus policy.

The government released the guidelines on a Sunday, detailing the application process. Auto drivers must submit their applications at local village or ward secretariats starting September 17, 2025. To qualify, applicants must provide their auto rickshaw’s registration certificate, Aadhaar card, and a valid driving license.

Eligibility criteria include belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, with no members employed in government jobs or receiving pensions. Additionally, the average monthly electricity consumption of applicants must not exceed 300 units.

Applications are required to be submitted online before September 1. Once verified, the ₹15,000 support will be transferred directly to the drivers’ accounts on October 1.
